The Power to Live. Work. Play.
Portable generators are a welcome addition to many activities at home, at work, and away. In an emergency, portable generators can provide critical backup power. They make camping and tailgating more comfortable. And contractors appreciate the flexibility portable power brings to the jobsite.

The Power to Live
Many get their first introduction to portable generators when they need emergency power. During a power outage, Generac portable generators make sure the most important items — lights, refrigerators and freezers, sump pumps, even space heaters and window air conditioners — are up and running, minimizing any disruption to your lifestyle.

The Power to Work
Utility power isn't always available where and when you need to tackle home improvement projects. Take a Generac portable generator to that far corner of your property instead of running lengthy extension cords, or rely on portable power if you need to turn off utility power for extensive home improvement work.

The Power to Play
Roughing it is only fun until you can't make a cup of coffee or charge your cell phone. Bring a Generac portable generator to your next tailgate party or camping trip and you'll have all the comforts of home wherever you are.

A Broad Selection for Home, Work and Play
Many get their first introduction to portable generators when they need emergency power. But portable generators have many uses around the home. Find the Generac portable generator that's right for your needs.

Sizing, safety, and hookup questions we hear from Southeastern Wisconsin homeowners.
What size portable generator do I need?
Add up the running watts of the items you want to power at the same time, then allow extra capacity for the higher starting watts of motors such as sump pumps, refrigerators, and well pumps. We can help you choose a Generac portable generator that matches your needs.
Can I connect a portable generator to my house?
Yes, but only through a properly installed transfer switch or interlock. Never plug a generator into a wall outlet (backfeeding), which is dangerous for your household and utility workers. Southeast Electrical Services installs manual transfer switches and power inlet boxes so you can safely power selected circuits.
What is the difference between an inverter and a conventional portable generator?
Inverter generators produce clean, stable power that's ideal for sensitive electronics, and they're typically quieter and more fuel efficient. Conventional portable generators offer more power for the price and are well suited to home backup and jobsite use.
Where should I run a portable generator?
Always operate a portable generator outdoors, far away from your home, with the engine exhaust pointed away from windows, doors, and vents. Never run it in a garage, basement, or enclosed space. Many Generac portable generators include COsense® technology, which automatically shuts the engine off if carbon monoxide builds up.
Should I choose a portable or a home standby generator?
Portable generators are an affordable, flexible option for powering essentials and for work or recreation, but they must be set up, fueled, and connected manually. A home standby generator starts automatically within seconds, runs on natural gas or propane, and can power your entire home. We can help you compare both options.
